Application of ICT's towards modernization of our cultures - Marked

Application of ICT's towards modernization of our cultures.

Culture  is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.

Development
This is the process in which someone or something grows or changes and become more advanced.
In addition, development is the movement from one event to another or the changes in the characters’ understanding.

Information and communications technology (ICT)
This is an extensional term for information technology (IT) that stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals) and computers, as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audiovisual systems, that enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information.

The term ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audiovisual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system.

How ICT can develop our culture
Social access to information and knowledge.
Individualization of learning:
This means that people learn as individuals and not as a homogenous group. ICTs allow each individual to relate to the medium and its content.

Interactivity:
Interactivity is the way in which a person can relate to the content, go forward and backward in the content, start at any point depending upon prior knowledge instead of always in a sequential way.

Low per unit cost:
Per person, ICTs reduce the cost of education from very high to very low. this way, instead of paying expensively the consultants on certain subject matters, one can research through the network on the different articles and journal written by the different scholar on his/her issues of interest thereby boosting self-extraction of information.

Distance and climate insensitive:
It does not matter where you are, or how the weather is, you can still access and learn from ICTs. This actually is a modernization of the traditional system whereby in case of unfavorable conditions, one cannot make it to the designated meeting point, then the class is consequently missed.

Can serve multiple teaching functions and diverse audiences:
ICTs, especially the computer and Internet-based can be useful in drill and practice; to help diagnose and solve problems, for accessing information and knowledge about various related themes.

High-speed delivery of Information, wide reach at low cost:
There is instant delivery of information across different platform of communication and media houses as compared to the traditional age. This kind of modernization has been put in place by embracing the ICT’s and making good use of them hence, a development registered.

Agricultural sector:
In this field, ICT’s can be applied facilitating for example weather forecasting so that we estimate the climate and plan a go about of the season depending on the challenges expected in advance like heavy rain and drought.
Better farming methods as per approved research is concerned can be communicated to the targeted group which are in the agriculture sector for betterment of how they handle it
Technologies in marketing of yielded products, fighting of pests and diseases by research the appropriate control measure among other can improve on agriculture.

Social development:
Technology usage erodes a number of disciplines and information with it, which best describes the co-existing strategies of peoples in the different indigenous setting across the entire world. Some of these universally apply like treating others with dignity and respect as well as grooming the young ones morally upright and above all knowing how to handle conflicts and misunderstandings amongst peoples.

Engineering sector:
In this arena, heavy machineries like graders are used in units line infrastructure development where software and hardware inter-operate to achieve the desired functionalities hence development of high ways and other roads that makes a society to develop.
Manufacturing of other machineries like milling machines, grinding, processing, among more renders a response to needs of automation in different fields like agriculture, medical sector, and education sector among others thereby giving away in easily navigating through some of the challenges met.

In conclusion. ICT’s can multi-disciplinary transform our culture and social settings in a different way by visiting almost every sector like medical, agriculture, education to mention but a few, and upgrade their functionality level with automation and see to it the efficiency is exacted and perhaps better-living standards are approached.

Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions

Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions Understanding Different Countries https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newLDR_66.htm Imagine this scenario: Sayid's boss has asked him to manage a large, global team. In this new role, he'll be working closely with people in several different countries. He's excited about the opportunities that his connectedness will present, but he's also nervous about making cross-cultural faux pas. He knows that cultural differences can act as a barrier to communication, and that they could affect his ability to build connections and motivate people. So, how can he begin to understand these differences and work effectively with people from different cultures? © iStockphoto takasuu Learn how to work with teams and co-workers from around the world. Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory

Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory is a framework for cross-cultural communication , developed by Geert Hofstede . It describes the effects of a society's culture on the values of its members, and how these values relate to behavior, using a structure derived from factor analysis . [1] Hofstede developed his original model as a result of using factor analysis to examine the results of a world-wide survey of employee values by IBM between 1967 and 1973. It has been refined since. The original theory proposed four dimensions along which cultural values could be analyzed: individualism-collectivism; uncertainty avoidance; power distance (strength of social hierarchy) and masculinity-femininity (task orientation versus person-orientation). Independent research in Hong Kong led Hofstede to add a fifth dimension, long-term orientation, to cover aspects of values not discussed in the original...

Reviving Critical Modernism in Development Studies

Reviving Critical Modernism in Development Studies 7 September 2016 Richard Heeks https://ict4dblog.wordpress.com/2016/09/07/reviving-critical-modernism-in-development-studies/ Critical modernism forms a very small, rather dated trickle of ideas within development studies. How could it be updated to serve as a lens for current research? Critical modernism can be understood as a wide sweep of ideas, particularly encompassing thinkers such as Habermas and Gramsci [1] .  But it has only a small explicit footprint within development studies largely triggered by a chapter in Peet & Hartwick’s book Theories of Development , published in 1999 [2] .  Itself developed from earlier work, this was particularly a response to “post-development” ideas that arose in the 1980s. Despite subsequent editions of Theories of Development , the core text on critical modernism by Peet & Hartwick remains unchanged, and the specific notion has gained little overt traction in...
