    Meaning of development
    Development is defined by Todaro and Smith as a multi-dimensional process that involves major changes in social structures, popular attitudes, and national institutions, as well as economic growth, reduction of inequality, and eradication of absolute poverty.
    Explanation of your understanding of the development theory.
    the modernization theory elaborates on two main categories of societies in world, namely the traditional and modern societies. Theorists argue that the traditional societies are entangled by norms, beliefs and values which are hindering their development process. Therefore, they must adapt the modern style of living, thus concentrate on accumulation of capital and industrialization. My understanding of this theory is that, it’s seeks to improve the standard of living of the inferior societies, which cannot afford basic social amenities and improves their traditional societies to acquire basic and secondary necessities of life. The theory also provides a way of transition from a low life of living to a modern way of living by preparation to take-off, the take-off process and the drive to maturity and finally the period of mass consumption. All these processes put the traditional societies on the development path again, to affect a change or bring development to this society you must affect their norms, values and beliefs of that particular society. Modernization theory stresses not only the process of change but also the responses to that change, the societies will change and develop with more modern practices. Looking at the technological viewpoint, new technologies do not change societies by itself rather, it is the response to technology that causes the change.
    Your Village – how is its development?
    My village is not developed, it is still suffering from literacy. But I believe that one day it will be developed and the villagers can enjoy basic amenities and live a modern life.
    How could the theory be applied?
    The theory of modernization can be applied in my village because the theory focuses on the traditional societies to adapt the modern style of living by affecting their norms, beliefs and values, if their norms and belief is affected the society will change by making the villages understand the importance of this development. The theory also focuses on the response of the change more than the change itself. When the feedback is negative, we can find out where the problem is located and fix it because of the response of the people and another means will be used to deliver the change to the people.
